In Magnolia, news isn’t just about headlines — it’s about who we are. It’s Friday night football, school board decisions, city council meetings, public safety, and the people and businesses that shape our everyday lives. At the Banner-News, we believe Magnolia deserves a newsroom that listens, investigates, explains and connects.

But sustaining that mission has never been more challenging — and never more important. It’s no secret that newspapers across the county are struggling. When local journalism fades, voter turnout drops. Public meetings go uncovered. Misinformation spreads more easily. Without a well-supported newsroom, Magnolia risks losing something essential: a reliable, consistent source of local truth.

That’s why we launched the Banner-News Community Journalism Project: to invite our readers and neighbors to help us preserve, protect and expand local news coverage in Magnolia and Columbia County. A trusted newsroom helps hold power accountable and gives people the facts they need to make decisions. When local journalism thrives, communities are stronger:

  • Voters are better informed.
  • Officials are held accountable.
  • Local businesses and events get visibility.
  • Neighbors stay connected.

That’s the kind of future we want for Magnolia, and that’s what your support makes possible. Every donation to the Community Journalism Project supports reporting for the Banner-News. Your contributions help us cover more issues that affect daily life in Magnolia and give our reporters the capacity to dig deeper and ask harder questions.

Donate now to help preserve and grow local coverage. This is an invitation to help write Magnolia’s next chapter — one rooted in truth, connection and shared understanding.
